    LIBIYAN OIL FOR AL-MEGRAHI

The US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, chaired by Senator John Kerry, plans to ask BP officials to testify after the company said it had lobbied the British government in 2007 over a prisoner transfer agreement with Libya.
US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told Britain's foreign minister in a phone call that Britain may want to communicate with the US Congress about the bomber. Allegations have surfaced in the US that BP put pressure on the Scottish Government to release al-Megrahi in order to secure a lucrative African oil contract. Tony Blair has gone to Libya to talk to Gadafi over the matter and it looks like another cover up. Americans are no friends of any one when it comes to any deals. Tony Blair made a deal and he is up there to fix it. So why did we realized Al-Megrahi was it because of oil or was it because he only had three months to live. My question is who got it wrong the Politician or the medical investigator?

It's a pity that these US Senators can't busy themselves with calling for a full inquiry into the Lockerbie bomb, rather than making BP dance to their tune.
It's just a sideshow aiming to make BP bigger monsters than they already are.

I think that elements with in the US government and intelligence know that Al-Megrahi was not responsible for the pan am 103 bombing. The reason they want to set up an investigation is not to discredit Al-megrahi and the UK government but to get own back on BP over the oil spill. I think they could be using this as more leverage to get BP to play by the American administrations tune.

Why weren't these Senators foaming at the mouth a year ago when this story broke?
Why didn't they care then, but they care now?

As smirniff_rules said it?s about the oil and money.
They have cornered BP and they are trying to get as much money as they feel like, mind you the oil has left the fisherman and holiday makers well out of pocket, but we are friends of Americans we should sit down and negotiate in close doors mate.

By the way we didn't release Megrahi... The Scottish did.. They have autonomy own their own judiciary procedures..

Also don't believe the yanks.. they are trying to disable the company and will then try to pick it up on the cheap...

Cameron should tell Obama to ~~~~ right off... he's turned out to be a slimy gutless coont, he wont get a second term...

It's not Obama, but the corrupt fat cats that are pulling the senate's strings.
I'm sure he's no angel. But this is not his doing...if they push too hard it might just force the truth out about who's equipment failed.

And the same company is publically refusing to pay any money towards the clean up cost. But they are only being described as a 'partner' in the investment. Not the owner of the rig BP is leasing.

There are 3 companies involved in all this and the other two have effectively ganged up on BP.

Transocean - they own the rig

BP - leased the rig from Transocean

Cameron International - the makers of the BOP (blow out preventer)

Cameron International are trying to pin the blame on BP for the failure of the BOP,their lawyers are claiming that BP ordered Transocean to modify the BOP in China. Its not unusual for that to happen in the oil industry as it keeps the costs down but the contractors work should have been properly monitored to make sure the oil company's instructions were followed.
They are saying it was incorrectly modified in such a way that it was totally different from the original design and this makes BP liable.

Transocean have already told congressional hearings that it was ordered to modify it in 2005 at BP's expense and under its direction and it passes the buck back to BP.

Seems like its a bit of a witch hunt to be honest.

the scottish goverment have been under pressure about this since it happened maybe BP did have a say but i used to work for BP and the whole company was took over BP used to abuse its power all the time when they were in scotland(they have nothing in scotland now on shore everything was sold off eg refinery chemicals and the likes ) as for the US you have to remember that a company called Amco(American owned) still have shares in BP and aslo BP are entitled to a tax rebate from the US goverment of around 6 billion dollars imo the US Senate are aware of this and are trying to wriggle out of it but cant ,so they switched their bletting on how BP badgered the Scottish goverment to free this so called terrorist ,remember there are still a few americans who do not belive AL-MEGRAHI did this and as Cronus said why didnt they bumb their gums when this first happened and also when BP said the well was plugged their shares shot up in america thinks it was 12%

Close to a third of us live off the welfare state. We need companies like BP to pay huges taxes so that we can all get our dole money/child tax credits or however else we sponge off the state to get paid.
