couldnt agree more if thats the case we will have all the money back from our oil go our own way and keep our profits from our oil.

We are seen as British when it suits the English if its a English thing thats seen as good the English called it English. If theres a success from Scotland the English call it British.

Sorry but just saying it how I see it and plenty of other scottish feel the same.

That is your opinion, not neccassarily the posters opinion (who I asked it of).

I by all accounts (your logic of opinion) am British, I don't consider myself British. I am English. My Grandparents where not born in this country (England) - I was.

It thinks it's more complicated (or clear cut?) in Northern Ireland in that (in general) Protestants will class themselves as British and Catholics will class themselves as Irish.

Picking up on a comment made re the Olympic teams.. It's actually the GB & NI team - as if NI was a seperate entity.

not quiet as black and white as that. if we simplify it and go along religious lines roughly 53% should consider themselves british and 44% irish, but it gets more complicated again, see below from wikipedia........

This does not however, account for the complex identities within Northern Ireland, given that many of the population regard themselves as "Ulster" or "Northern Irish", either primarily, or as a secondary identity. A 2008 survey found that 57% of Protestants described themselves as British, while 32% identified as Northern Irish, 6% as Ulster and 4% as Irish. Compared to the same survey carried out in 1998 this shows a fall in the percentage of Protestants identifying as British and Ulster, and a rise in those identifying as Northern Irish. The 2008 survey found that 61% of Catholics described themselves as Irish, with 25% identifying as Northern Irish, 8% as British and 1% as Ulster. These figures were largely unchanged from the 1998 results.

Add to that that anyone born there who considers them selves British can have Irish citizenship and anyone who considers themselves Irish can have British citizenship. a subject not deserving of a one-liner answer nor can it be answered by one person i think.

Your spot on Grizz. I was over simplifying things as I didn't really want to go into the polictics of Northern Ireland on DK (done it before and it wasn't received that well - especially from the English on here - which are the majority).

Thanks for pointing out it isn't as black and white as I portrayed.

I have to say you all live in Great Britain even the Northern Irish. You were all once some type of tribe but the English were the biggest and tried to convert all of the others but couldn't do so. Why you are somewhat separate but together is cause each of you can't survive economically alone. It is also why the Irish, Welsh and the Scots won't ever win the world cup and why England only won once and comes close ( If you could call it that ) to winning most years. If you combine forces playing football who knows what could happen.

Getting back to the original subject, if the MP's in England feel that the people in England want GMT or any other time zone, then only the MP's in England should vote. If the Scots, Welsh, living there, want a different time zone; it is up these nations only to decide their own issues.

I think a few reasons why Ireland hasn't won the soccer world cup are;-
                          1) Soccer is about the 5th biggest sport in Ireland.
                          2) Small population (though we have been creative in aquiring some players...)
                          3) Relatively poor association - hence not the funds to promote the game.
                          4) No professional league.
                          5) Home nation staging a world cup nearly always do well - Ireland will never stage one due to lack of stadia.

At present I don't think a British team would make a massive difference. Outside Bale from Wales I don't see many others that would challenge the English players to get in the starting 11.

i guess thats what part of being a union is all about. Another few years and Europe will decide everything for us anyway. so we will all prolly be going by whatever time suits the bigboys there.

nothing new there... I visit my brother in Manchester and get dirty looks when I present a scottish tenner over the counter.. if its all about the union then scottish notes are "sterling" too so no one should have a problem accepting it..

Can see a clear difference.. Welsh and Irish are nice friendly people like scots..

no offence guys but the comment by the MP is shocking !!
