hangover cure ? ewe must be having a laugh

Feeling baa-d ... pickled sheep's eye to sort you out

SHHH! Last night was Black Friday, the last big party night before Christmas.

So millions of Brits are hung over and trying traditional remedies including fry-ups and cans of Coke.

But in case the usual British cures aren't hitting the spot, JENNA SLOAN brings you these recipes from around the world.

Although, if you're feeling really queasy, you might want to give the pickled sheep's eye a miss.

    Korea

Brave drinkers can ward off a bad head with a bowl of Haejangguk, a soup made from pork spine, dried cabbage, coagulated ox blood and vegetables.

Some types also include fermented, salted shrimp and are intended to be drunk with sugared rice wine with flour in.
Zinc in a glass ... Guinness

    Ireland

Many drinkers swear by the "hair of the dog" to cope with the effects of too much boozing.

n Ireland it is believed a pint of Guinness and half a dozen oysters will sort you out.

The oysters contain zinc, which has libido-boosting qualities.
You'll need to get over the headache first, though.

    Haiti

Voodoo priests in Haiti recommend taking your rage out on the bottle itself.

To cure a hangover, drop 13 black-headed pins into the bottle from which you've been drinking, or plunge them into the cork if it's wine or champagne.

    Outer Mongolia

This one should probably be used only as a last resort.
Take a pickled sheep's eyeball, put it in a glass and fill with tomato juice.

Do as the Romans do ... and drink a roar egg

The drink needs to be downed in one - resist the temptation to savour the flavour.

At least the gagging will take your mind off the hangover for a while...

    Poland

The Poles reckon sour flavours are the best for curing a sore head.

Unpasteurised sour milk is one option, but that would turn most stomachs even when sober.

Another choice is to down a glass of pickle juice made with plenty of vinegar. Bottoms up.

    Ancient Rome

The relatively sedate practice of warding off a hangover by wearing a garland of parsley to bed was popular with Pliny The Elder, a general and philosopher who also made a study of hangover cures.

But when that wasn't very effective he moved on to swallowing raw eggs and drinking olive oil and garlic.

    Russia

If you have some cabbages left over from the Korean cure, copy the Russians - who have plenty of hangover experience from the national sport of downing vodka in large quantities.

They boil a cabbage, then down the water and soggy veg in one.

The hangovers 700 years ago were just as savage as today's.

Drinkers in the Middle Ages relied on dried eels and bitter almonds for tackling the effects of the morning after a skinful of mead.
