    worlds longest bridge completed

    amazing !

Record breaker ... world's longest bridge

THE world's longest bridge has finally been finished ? after four years of work.

It links Qingdao city in eastern China's Shandong province with the Huangdao district and is a staggering 26.4 miles long ? 174 TIMES the length of London's Tower Bridge over the Thames.

Two separate teams have been building the different ends of the Qingdao Haiwan Bridge since 2006.

Spantastic ... bridge links three Chinese towns

The ?5.5billion structure was finally finished on Monday when engineers linked up its two ends.

The crossing links three coastal towns in Shandong province.
One engineer said of the bridge's completion: "The computer models and calculations are all very well but you can't really relax until the two sides are bolted together.

"Even a few centimetres out would have been a disaster."
The previous holder of the world's longest bridge title was the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway in southern Louisiana in the US.

It features two bridges running side by side and is 23.87 miles (38.42km) long.

WOW and it took only FOUR years to build.
If it was in the UK, this would have taken 40 years to build!

Wow! ~~~~ing amazing that! I once went on what used to be the longest bridge in the world, in Penang, but this one absolutley dwarfs it.

Can't believe it only took 4 years to build.

I wonder how many people died during the building of it ?? They may build things quickly, but health and safety is a liitle bit much to be desired. Either way its a fantastic piece of engineering !
