    Britain's fastest police car

Lotus has donated one of its Evora sports cars to the traffic cops operating in the West Midlands.
Dressed in full panda car livery, the Evora will be a worrying sight for speeders.
Of more concern for law-breakers is the car's 276bhp 3.5-litre V6 engine, which propels it to 60mph in 4.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 162mph, rendering it Britain's fastest police car.
The Evora starts at ?48,550 and it's the first car of its type to be used by a police force in the UK.
However, it's not a permanent fixture, as Lotus has loaned the car to the force, so it will only be on the beat for two weeks as part of a trial.
Drivers can expect to see the Evora patrolling the M5, M6 and M42 motorways as well as the M6 toll road.
Speaking to the 'Daily Mail', PC Angus Nairn said: "It's a very quick car and we hope it will prove an effective deterrent to anyone thinking of speeding or trying to outrun us.
"It has incredible performance yet still does around 30 miles to the gallon. It will attract a lot of attention on the motorways but that is the whole idea - it will remind drivers of the need to keep to the speed limits at all times."
This isn't the first time that the West Midlands Police has employed the services of specialist vehicles. Last year it borrowed an HGV to see into the cabs of lorries and catch careless drivers using their mobile phones at the wheel.

Tools owned: Hammer, Chisel, Crowbar, Punch, Chainsaw, Cutter and Brain!!!

WHOA HANG ON! tHere is a confirmed rumor stating the fuzz are not able to take gifts, as they could be classed as a bribe!

      EXAMPLE
So Mr Lotus's factory gets 'done over', more stuff goes missing on paper - fraud he lends a car as a bribe, end of.

I'm too lazy to look up the stats, but think about this.... Lotus 276bhp, 3.5litre V6 getting 30mpg. Monaro 475bhp, 5litre supercharged V8.... Anyone wanna guess at the mpg for that???

But if I had the money I'd buy the Monaro, one passed me a couple of years ago... looked a bit like a calibra/cavalier hybrid in my rear view... but what a sound as it passed.

26.1mpg. So the saving of ?20,000 on a new car would pay for the extra fuel and still have some cash left to buy a panda car.

They are not using it as a police car. Seen it on the local news a few days ago. Its going to for show at exhibitions, shows etc.

This would be the listed details for the original Monaro, not the later VXR500. The average mpg for the original model is 19mpg, but the police don't always drive in a sensible manor.

Many years ago I had a chat with some traffic officers in their Senator. They were getting an average of 17mpg. You should never believe the details issued by the manufacturers.

I do stand corrected on one detail... it's a 5.7 litre V8 from a Corvette LS2 (the americans list it as a 6 litre V8)

There are 2 versions of there aluminium chev engine fitted to Aus Holdens earlier 5.7 and now a 6 litre both with a few flaws like cylinder liners coming loose and excess oil consumption.I hate aluminium, fit only for beer cans
