    GOVT TO OFFER CHEAP PC

The government is to attempt to break down the UK's digital divide by offering subsidised PCs to poorer households.
As part of the initiative, refurbished PCs will be available for as little as ?98, while users will also be able to take advantage of low-cost internet subscriptions.
Martha Lane Fox, founder of lastminute.com and the UK's digital champion, welcomed the news saying cost is still one of the biggest obstacles for people to overcome when looking to gain regular access to the internet.
'Motivation and inspiration are still two of the biggest barriers to using the internet, but clearly perception of price is another big deal for people,' she commented.
'In an effort to bridge the digital divide, a new UK scheme will offer ?98 PCs to the 9.2 million British adults who have never used the internet. I'm absolutely delighted at this great deal.'
The initiative will run on a 12-month trial basis as part of the Race Online 2012 scheme.

Our govt is offering refurbished PCs for as little as ?98.00, well refurbished PCs are also called second hand PCs so why any one wants to pay ?98.00 for a second hand stuff and I would also check the PCs speck like the size of HDD, Processor speed, etc.

God I remember this sort of scheme from yrs ago, around 1998 or 1999. the pc's then were ONLY ?25. And they were WORTH about ?5. Methinks this is a scam to recoup some money

My theory is, it wil be top spec computers, but only available to people in rural communities. Which incidently is where most of the tories core votes come from.

An if I think on they are planning to offer cheap petrol to people in rural communities. So if you can afford to live in a boss house in the country you will get cheaper petrol. Makes sense doesn't it.

Most of the dolies already have laptops or smart phones on contract.
