Manny Pacquiao vs. Shane Mosley Confirmed

Shane Mosley has signed the contract to fight Filipino boxing
superstar Manny Pacquiao on May 7 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

This was confirmed in a report by Fightnews.com which stated that the bout will be for Pacquiao's WBO welterweight title. The report says the contract was signed by Shane Mosley today.

In a related news report, Philboxing com's Ed de la Vega wrote: During the ?Sports Segment of the 6 PM news over KNBC Channel 4 LA, they announced that Pacquiao has agreed to meet Shane Mosley on May 7th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Upon hearing this, I texted Lee Samuels of Top Rank to verify the report. Samuel replied : ?YES?.

Shane Mosley who has severed ties with Oscar de la Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions to give him a freehand to negotiate with Pacquiao's promoter Bob Arum, said yesterday he was confident Pacquiao will choose him over Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez and Haitian-American Andre Berto.

Mosley, Marquez and Berto were part of the shortlist submitted by Bob Arum to Manny Pacquiao during his recent visit to the Philippines to grace the Filipino boxer's birthday last December 17.

Meanwhile Pacquiao's trainer Freddie Roach is reportedly amenable to train Pacquiao again in Baguio City for the May 7 fight with Shane Mosley.
?Yeah, Baguio is still acceptable to me and I told Manny that already simply because there will be less distraction there than in Manila and Cebu where we had bad experience before,? Roach told Eddie Alinea of Philboxing.com

Pacquiao who is a neophyte congressman has been widely criticized for his lackluster performance during the early part of his training in Baguio City in preparation for his duel with Mexican Antonio Margarito last November 13.

Roach complained of too many distractions during Pacquiao's past training sessions in the Philippines.

But the hall of fame trainer said he understands the newly elected congressman has to attend to his constituents and perform his sworn duties as an elected public official.

Bit of a non fight really, Mosley was battered by Mayweather, totally outclassed. I think Pacquiao is on a different level to Mayweather so this fight really is a non starter.

Bob Arum: Manny Pacquiao Will Not Retire After Shane Mosley

Top Rank Promotions' CEO Bob Arum is cited on BoxingScene.com through an original report by Dennis Guillermo of The Examiner.com that he expects eight-division titlist Manny Pacquiao to fight at least five more times after defending his WBO welterweight (147 pounds) crown against three-division, five-time champion Shane Mosley on May 7.

Also the holder of the WBC's junior middleweight (154 pounds) belt, the 32-year-old Pacquiao (52-3-2, 38 knockouts) will be after his 14th straight win and his ninth knockout during that run when he meets the 39-year-old Mosley (46-6-1, 39 KOs) in an HBO pay-per-view televised bout from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

"[Manny Pacquiao won't retire] before 2013. He told me that on the day of his birthday in the Philippines," Arum said of Pacquiao, whose birthday was on Dec. 17. "Between 2011, 2012 and 2013, he plans to have six fights" at the rate of twice per year.

Arum and Golden Boy Promotions have twice failed to negotiate a mega fight between Pacquiao and six-time champion Floyd Mayweather (41-0, 25 KOs), but the 79-year-old promoter told BoxingScene.com that he still hopes that bout might come to fruition, even as several attempts to contact the Las Vegas resident have failed.

"Mayweather? You said Mayweather," Arum said. "Please. Does anyone know where he is or where to find Floyd Mayweather Jr.?"

On Nov. 13, at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium, Pacquiao earned a victory over Antonio Margarito (38-7, 27 KOs), adding the WBC's vacant junior middleweight (154 pounds) crown.

Pacquiao was outweighed 165 pounds to 148 pounds by Margarito on the night of their fight, one after which he had to be hospitalized briefly for a rib injury that resulted from a brutal, sixth-round body shot.

"Manny has done nothing but taken on larger opponents ... and it has taken the toll at times," said Pacquiao's adviser, Michael Koncz. "I mean, Margarito hurt him in the sixth round when he caught Manny with that body shot."

Like Arum, however, Koncz said that Pacquiao will continue to fight as long as his body can take it.

"There are so many variables there," Koncz said. "Injuries, safety, all kinds of things. In regard to how many more fights Manny will fight, only Manny knows that. At the present time, he enjoys boxing, he enjoys training, and he's having fun and it's not work for him. When he wakes up one morning and it's like, 'Oh my God, I've got to jog,' and he finds that it's a really difficult task to train, then, you know, it's time for him to find something else to do.

"But Manny's the only one who can make that decision. All that I'm saying is that nobody is going to know except Manny himself. If something drastic happens where we have to coax him to retire, then, you know, we'll do it. But I don't think that Manny has peaked and I think that he's still developing and he's not reached the top of his game yet. But that's all up to him. I'm not asking him to retire and I'm not asking him to fight. When it's time to retire he'll know when to retire."
Floyd Mayweather will not fight Manny Pacquiao if he looks sensational against Sugar Shane Mosley, but if Pacman looks slower, gets dropped a couple of times or wobbled, but still wins a decision against Mosley, Floyd would consider taking the Pacman on, only because Pacquiao would look very beatable and Floyd knows he would have a better chance of beating him.
If Manny Pacquiao knocks out Shane Mosley, Floyd will announce his official retirement from the sport of boxing shortly after.
