Well its a sad sad day- Rangers and celtic both out in the qualifying rounds of europa and rangers got two bites at the cherry. Ive never seen our best teams play so poor, where do we go from here.

I wouldn't worry about European comps and such.

Just support your local team, get to the games, and enjoy it. It's football, doesn't matter what level Scottish teams are at, support your local club and enjoy the football, the day or evening out, and a pie and a couple of pints.

bus loads of fans from all over Scotland to Glasgow every Saturday.. That's why outside the old firm the average gate is 2 men and their dogs

I agree. Nothing to do with it at all. Thousands of fans go from English towns to watch United, Liverpool and Arsenal. And the reason why gates are smaller in Scotland is simple mathematics. Scotland's population = 5 mill, England's = 52 mill.

It's simple what the problem is - money. The cure is more head scratching though..

Its more to do with grass roots football, take yourself back when you were younger, and i bet you played fitbae in the street every night or other night, nowadays you dont see the kids playing, well maybe except on fifa.

Even back then the schools at football teams, now there nothing like that.

Look at the population I say again.

Without looking on the net, Glasgow is the only Scottish city with a pop' of over half a mill. And to be fair some of the English big cities teams are not getting great crowds at the minute. Sheffield - (4th biggest city) both United & Wednesday getting 16,000. Notingham - County's gates have been low for a long time and Forrest's have never been that high (especially as they are double winning Euro champs). Hull - another big city, only one club - not great support (though rugby is big there). Birmingham, huge pop' of over a mill. Villa's gates been on the decline for a few years now - mid 30,000's, Birmingham even when they were in the EPL only got mid 20,000's.

Scotland is less than a tenth the size of England in terms of pop'. English football having bigger gates is a bit of a no brainer...

By the way, I think Motherwell would be chuffed to bits to have an average gate of 10,000 at the end of the season.

i read the mccoist was talking up rangers chances of playing in the premier league again but i think the quality of the squad is only fit for the championship and look at celtics star players hooper ex s****horpe and commons ex derby and forest and they are world beaters in the spl.

Just a point on Celtic last night. I don't think it was a bad performance at all? I thought they were really unlucky- never a pen.

Also I take it on board re the players singed by Celtic, but we simply can't afford 2 pay 20 mill or more on average players like teams in England can, so we shop elsewhere. Though I wouldn't say Hooper was our star player & commons hasn't had a game this season..

I remember a certain English team singing a player from S****horpe that went onto be the England captain & win the European golden boot I think..everybody starts somewhere..

commons would be a first team regular if fit and your going back nearly 40 years for keegan and football has changed a lot since then as celtic did have a world beater then.

Disagree gaz city have won the fa cup and now are playing in the champions league. without the money they have got now theres no way they could have achieved this' players are going to city just for the money and are quite happy to sit out and play the odd game. apart from tevez but thats another story
