ok if we/re going to do this, we need reasons, not just names.
    i will say paul scholes
    why?
he was and is a model proffessional who was a midfield dynamo, ok tackling is not his strong point, but his vison for a pass? second to none and plus "paul scholes scores goals"

      true great player scholes
zola's first touch was superb, vision excellent,
passing brilliant & scored a few goals besides
      heading bit suspect

well shady i totally agree m8 paul scholes can do everything, barring a few mistimed tackles he is the most consistent player to grace the epl

he hits it short, long never wastes a pass he is always in space united play when he plays he is the most underated footballer of his generation

its no coincidence that the england team went backwards when scholes packed in and his greatness is why every england manager wanted him back he is a players player, and all the players who play and train with the man will tell you the same he is the best

scholes is always first pick in training games simply because whoever has him wins the game,he is a living legend a pass master and probably one of the greatest english footballers ever

the only reason he has not won individual honours is that he shuns tv interviews shuns the papers he just does what a footballer should and lets his feet do the talking

all u say about scholesy is true, i was behind the goals last year wen he scored the goal against barca to put us in the final a true legend but id like to give a shout to a guy who has played at the very top for almost 20 years and is gonna be offered a new contract at the end of the season Mr Ryan Giggs wat a legend dere arent many around dead or alive with his trophy cabinet.

Well my nomination is Alan Shearer,

In my opinion the greatest striker the epl has seen, certainly the greatest english one anyways.

First man since after the war, and i presume he still is to score more than 30 league goals in 3 consecutive seasons.

He had it all, could head, could tap them in, could score from long range, and had his fair share of spectacular goals. He is still the leading scorer of all time in the premiership.

All he won is the Premiership title with Blackburn, rejected United for the 2nd time to join the team he supported as a kid, and enjoyed many successfull seasons.

Add to that an illustrious international career.

One of the all time great number 9's

Peter Beardsley, he contributed to so many players becoming 'greats', for example, Gary Lineker.

Apparantly he didn't like Sir Alex,

He could have went to United after Blackburn, for more "money" i presume, but chose Newcastle
