Rangers: Relaunched club prepares for Brechin City tie

    Ramsdens Cup first round

    Venue: Glebe Park
    Date: Sunday, 29 July
    Kick-off: 15:05 BST

Coverage: BBC ALBA, BBC Radio Scotland, BBC Sport website

The new Rangers will begin life in the Ramsdens Cup when they face Brechin City at Glebe Park on Sunday.

Relaunched by a new company after the former incarnation could not be saved from liquidation, Rangers will be in the Third Division this season.

Second Division Brechin say they are expecting a "sell out".

Fifteen first round ties involving the 28 other Scottish Football League clubs and two from the Highland League took place on Saturday.

Holders Falkirk booked their place in the next round along with Airdrie United, Annan Athletic, Arbroath, Cowdenbeath, East Fife, East Stirlingshire, Forfar Atletic, Montrose, Morton, Partick Thistle, Queen of the South, Queen's Park, Raith Rovers and Stenhousemuir.

Ian Black and Andy Little, who signed three-year contracts with Rangers on Saturday, may play as trialists as they will not be formally registered with the club until next week.

Both players had been out of contract this summer having been at Hearts and Rangers, respectively, last season.

Several players who were registered with Rangers last season and allowed their contracts to be transferred to the relaunched Ibrox club may also feature at Glebe Park.

These include experienced forward Lee McCulloch, goalkeeper Neil Alexander and Scotland left-back Lee Wallace.

McCulloch told Rangers' website: "Brechin will be hard to beat. Everybody will look at the tie and some will say it'll be a walkover for us but we're not going in with that attitude.

"If we play the way we can, we'll be confident of getting a result but that's all we'll be and we need to work for a win.

"It's not as simple as just turning up and winning. Teams will make it difficult for us this season and they might sit in until we break them down.

"The teams in the SFL are going to be very well organised and they'll make it as difficult as possible for us."

Former Rangers youth player Derek Carcary and former SPL player Garry Brady and experienced goalkeeper Craig Nelson are likely to be in the Brechin squad.

Could be a tough enough game there will be a lot of pressure to perform. Im looking forward to seeing black turn out i think he will become a fans favourite.

Drawn against the mighty Falkirk at the Bairnabeu in 2 weeks time. Can Rangers handle being against a big team and the current holders?

I'm sure Falkirk will give some of their youngsters a game and save the key players for later on in the competition.

40,000 at Ibrox last night so a Scottish 3rd division club is now getting bigger crowds than most English premier league clubs
