SPL clubs to receive extra ?1m

Celtic's progression to the group stage of the Champions League will land other Scottish Premier League clubs a ?1m cash boost.

UEFA makes an annual payout to all 53 nations involved in European competition, which is to be directed to top division clubs which do not reach the last 32 of the top tournament.

The SPL were due to receive ?500,000 but that payment will be increased to circa ?1,500,000, an amount which will be shared equally amongst the other 11 top flight sides.

European football's governing body will make the payment at the end of the 2012/13 campaign.

The SPL's chief executive, Neil Doncaster, said: "Our congratulations go to all at Celtic on once again reaching the group stages of the UEFA Champions League.

"Their success is a welcome boost for the entire game in Scotland - both financially and reputationally.

"Ahead of the start of Scotland's World Cup qualifying campaign next week, last evening is a timely reminder that Scottish football still has a rightful place at European football's top table."
