Barcelona's Lionel Messi has set the record for most goals in a calendar year by scoring his 86th goal of 2012.
The 25-year-old Argentine overhauled Gerd Mueller's tally of 85 - set in 1972 - to set a new benchmark which includes goals for club and country.

Gerd Muller never scored any penalty's. He also scored more goals for country than Messi. No matter what it's still impressive. Messi might be great but will never be as good as Zidane.

I idolised Zidane and he was my favourite all time player

But what messi has done to the game is a whole new level.

Zidane was an artist and had grace and aura, but even he cant do the things messi can.

Messi can win a game all alone, he can score brilliant individual goals and does so almost every week.

He can also drop off and be the same creative play maker zidane was......

Thats what sets him apart, he can score goals like the greatest ever forward but then he can also create goals like the greatest ever midfield play maker

He has the passing and creative ability of zidane, platini, xavi

And he has the scoring genuis of van basten, pele, muller

No player has ever had both......messi has

Free kick specialist, great penalty taker, good with his head, left foot...right foot....one on one.....outside the area......fox in the box

He has every attribute all of those above players had all in one player.
