Mate.. just hang on before you splash out..
the local rags and ebay are full of decent clubs for cut down prices..
The ammount of people who take up golf and get all the gear then find thy cant be arsed is amazing..
I picked up a half set of Hippo's with a bag and trolley, 3 years ago for ?80.. the old guy had bought them as he 'fancied' taking up golf and then found it too difficult..

Just get yourself a half set and some lessons down your local Pro Shop.. then if you like it and you are serious get yourself some clubs like the pro's use.. Nike, Callaway, Hippo, Wilson, TaylorMade etc.

Check out American Golf for some good prices and keep an eye on ebay and your local paper

if your buying new from ebay try to avoid buying from the far east.. you can pick up some real bargains on second hand clubs from the UK though.. some have only been used 2-3 times..

Check out here as well.. some right bargains..

Example i've just seen these on the above site:

                    Philip
                    North West
                    0192522***
                    0796704***
                    ?220
Ben Hogan cft edge irons 3 to sand wedge,
                    Progen full bore driver,
                    3,5,7 wilson aggressor woods,
Putter and bag all in excellent condition.

avoid ebay at all costs. much 2 risky.you should consider visiting other golf forums as many have market places, where some great bargains can be picked up.

Gumtree and alike may be a good place, ebay would be good if they are local to you so you can collect and inspect them before completing the transaction, my advice in all honesty is to get a set from Soccer Sports for about 120, they are dunlop clubs or summat, okay they are not in the same league as Howsen, Titleist et all but there are cheap enough to have in case you do not fall in love with the game, as its the most frustrating game I play!

If you do then enjoy the game then I would visit a "proper" golf shop and get measured up with a pro who analyses your swing and the chooses clubs that are correct for you, but beware new clubs do take a bit of adaptation!
