Manchester United sign Wigan winger Valencia

    * United make first signing since Ronaldo's departure
    * Valencia signs four-year deal for undisclosed fee (adds details)
LONDON, June 30 (Reuters) - Manchester United have signed Ecuadorian winger Antonio Valencia from Wigan Athletic on a four-year contract for an undisclosed fee, the Premier League champions said on Tuesday.
The 23-year-old Valencia, who has played 34 times for his country, joined United as a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo who has agreed to move to Real Madrid for a world record transfer fee. "Playing in front of 76,000 fans alongside players like Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand and Ryan Giggs will be an amazing experience. I can't wait to get started," Valencia said on United's website (Manchester United Official Web Site).
Valencia became United manager Alex Ferguson's first signing since the end of last season, reportedly costing around 17 million pounds ($28.20 million).

I think it's a good signing for United. I doubt he'll be able to replace the impact Ronaldo had for them, but still a great player nonetheless.

He won't replace the Ronaldo of 07/08, but he will improve the team of the Ronaldo of last season. I'm not trying to say he's a better player, but it will be better for the team, as Fergie will not now have to stick Rooney on the wing becaue of Ronaldo's laziness. Rooney's performances for England show that he will now be able to score more goals playing upfront, and hopefully a good out and out striker, with a proven goalscoring record and United will have a good chance of challenging on all fronts again.

Luis fabiano of Sevilla is the newest rumoured target sfter his goals in the confederations cup. Would prefer to see somebody who is proven in the Premier League though I can't think of anybody available who's good enough
