not controversial at all..
a good advantage was played as Utd had the ball in an attacking area, it was Utd that lost the ball.. Evra went down with no serious injury so no need to stop the play or kick the ball out (which isnt a rule anyway)..
the referee made a mistake when he thought ballack was injured earlier..
he obvioulsy didnt want to make the same mistake again..
Utd lost because they couldnt score from 9 yards not because the referee didnt stop play in this incidentLast edited by opsmonkey; 11 August, 2009, 15:35.

play should have been stopped why..??
the injury was not serious.. play should only be stopped for a head injury.. yes he should have been booked once the ball was out of play but the advantage was played, rightly so, as Utd were in an attacking area and had full control of the ball.. it was the awful punt into the box and subsequent clearance that cost Utd a goal.. oh and the fact that one Utd player was rolling on the floor holding his face when he'd been checked in the chest..

Imo it was a blatent foul, and inconsistency from the ref, who stopped play when ballack went down and got straight up, and how many times in such situations does the ref play the advantage. Had it been Rooney on cole what would the out come have been?Comment

yes it was a foul.. the ball rolled to a Utd player 25 yards from goal, Utd then held onto possession of the ball for a further 4 seconds before LOOSING it via a bad pass..
It was a good advantage to a team in a positive attacking position..
Once advantage has been played and taken (which it was, Rooney never even stopped to question the advantage decision and then passed the ball on) the play can not be brought back..
Evra was clearly body checked but opted to hold his face, his injury was not serious and therefore did not require play to be stopped..
Utd only kicked off about wanting a foul AFTER they had played the advantage and lost possession..
Yes a mistake had been made earlier by the referee by stopping play when he thought ballack had a facial / head injury..
So basically what your saying is that if a referee makes a mistake, then every other similar decision he should be consistent and make the same mistake..
It was a good advantage and poorly taken play..
As for the final comment..
has it really started already..?? 'No one likes us.. we never get any decisions..'Had it been Rooney on cole what would the out come have been?
You lost that game through more than a foul on Evra..
If he had got to his feet instead of holding a part of his body that never got touched he may have been able to help in the subsiquent Chelsea attack..
If your looking for a scapegoat i'd look no further than your new number 7 who offered little when he came on, missed a glorious heading opportunity and was too much of a shithouse to take a penalty

THE TRUTH
The Hillsborough Independent Panel. 12/09/12
Today's report is black and white. The Liverpool fans were not the cause of the disaster.
The panel has quite simply found 'no evidence' in support of allegations of 'exceptional levels of drunkenness, ticketlessness or violence among Liverpool fans' and 'no evidence that fans had conspired to arrive late at the stadium' and 'no evidence that they stole from the dead and dying'.Comment

If Rooney HAD gone on to score you would be saying that play should have stopped, no win situation ur just anti utd simples. as for owen had he been on from the start i think he would have scored. Just my opinion utd lost the game on a bad discission and poor penalty taking, looking forward to see what unfolds over the next ten months.Comment

So now you read minds do you..??
I'm firmly in the corner of playing on when there is an advantage to be had..
If it was Liverpool i'd be more angry that one of our players had remained on the floor when there was absolutely nothing wrong with him, and that we had wasted a very good advantage in what was an attacking position..
And if Rooney had gone on to score you would not even be bothered that Evra had been fouled..
You cant have your cake and eat it..
A good advantage was played and you failed to capitalise on it.. You cant them demand the play is brought back
Not just Utd but all players need to learn that there is no need to kick the ball out for any injury.. If the referee deems it a serious injury he has to stop play..
The old addage of playing to the whistle seems to be lost on the modern player..
Why did Evra stay down..?? He wasnt injured as proved when Chelsea scored he soon jumped to his feet..
I may be fully anti Utd.. but you cant argue with the facts.. There was no need to stop play, like there was no need to stop play when Ballack went down..
But do you really want referee's to start making more mistakes to balance out any already made..??
The referee made one mistake so he should be consistent and make it again to even things out.. is in essence what you want to happen..
