    Home-grown rule introduced

The Premier League have introduced a home-grown player rule which will come into effect from next season, alongside a limit on squad sizes.

From the 2010/11 campaign, the 20 Premier League clubs have voted to introduce measures which will see all teams required to have eight home-grown players out of a squad of 25.

I think this is a good idea. It leaves 17 places for foreign-trained players so there is plenty of room for the best players to come over. What it does mean though is that this will stop average foreign players coming over in place of average British players. My only concern however is that Scottish and Irish-trained players are counted as foreigners. I know they're different countries but I consider them more close relatives than mere neighbours such as France, Germany etc.

it is a good idea in principle whether it will change much i dont know i think most teams would already have around 8 english players in the squad already

it will push the price of english talent up even further than it already is and lower teams will find it even more tougher to hold on to there english stars to the big boys

the truth is there is not enough young english talent around and changing quotas wont change much teams invest millions in acadamies that often churn out next to nothing so they go abroad for there kids too

too make it they got to be good enough and most are not managers would always buy english or use english youth players if they were good enough over foreign imports because they have an understaning of our game and a desire most forigners do not

btw does anyone know if say someone like almunia ended up playing for england does this mean he is english for your quota of 8

I don't think Almunia qualifies because he is not home grown. I believe Fabregas on the other hand would qualify as he started with Arsenal aged just 17 so he would be considered home grown.
