yeah such a shame he was a great centre forward who was skillful with it. he was linked with my team Newcastle United a while ago & i really wanted it to happen but it never materialised.

I remember watching Dean Ashton spring to prominence in the Championship. Never nice to see any player retire so young, though worse to see a young player pass away (RIP Marc-Vivien Fo?) so it's sad to see one of the better players retire from the game early. Saying this though his health was always the most important factor, he's made his money, played football in the top flight and even got called up and played for England - and he's a shining example to all lower league strikers that if you're prolific enough then you can make it to the top - so Ashton at least has a career he can look back on and be infinitely proud of forever. It's sad news for sure, but if you shine some perspective on it, it's not all bad.

he was the last of the old fashioned type of centre forwards he will be a big miss for the hammers as they are struggling and could of done with him this season

Good point, he's the sort of striker that England are missing. If he'd have been able to get a good season behind him he would have been a shoe-in for the plane to South Africa and would have made a great partnership with Rooney.
England will miss him, but we'll miss him even more at the Hammers.
