    BIG CLUBS

just interested in peoples opinions on this what is a big club how are they defined in peoples minds

is it history, trophies, fanbase or money that make a big club?

as a utd man and as much as i here we are the biggest club in the world i dont think we are as big as we think we are

yes we may make huge money and its possible that we may have more fans globally than anyone else but the best players in the world ignore the UK they always have done they choose to play in italy and spain

unless they are young and nurtured here, over the hill or born and bred here the truth is they dont come to england in there peak

i would have to concede that to me real madrid are probably the biggest club in football as an all round package of history, money fanbase and even the climate

but in the uk who do you see as big clubs on a personal note i see utd liverpool and arsenal as the 3 biggest english clubs in that order too but i dont see chelsea as a big club (is it just me)

i see everton, villa, spurs, newcastle and even sunderland and 3rd division leeds as bigger clubs than chelsea on there traditions and history

anyone agree or what do you think makes a BIG club and who is the biggest clubs in your opinions in uk and globally also

Just don't mention Real Madrid m8... You are right that the lot of best players is(was) playing there but they are also club that is destructing good players who goes there, bad scouting etc. Don't like them at all. This is just for R Madrid, and for the other things you are saying that describes great club I must think a bit

Good thread mate, but I can feel heated discussions a coming... ha

I think Man U are massive, along with Barca & Real. Then I reckon you've got the likes of Liverpool, the Milans, Bayern...

I think all what you have mentioned re what makes a big club makes sense & I agree with what's been said about Chelsea - not a massive fan base, not that much history, not that sucessful until recent times..

I see the 5 biggest clubs in the Uk being Man U, Liverpool, Celtic, Rangers and Arsenal btw.. I can see many disagreeing with that! ha

in terms of fans world wide who would you say are in the top ten? This might be interesting..

would love rangers & celtic down here.. would be very interesting to say the least.. but would kill scottish football i think.

Agree. I would put City, Spurs, Everton, Villa & maybe even West Ham in front of them - they have the bigger history and the bigger fan base.

Who's you top ten supported clubs in the world then?

            Man U
            Barca
            Real
            Liverpool
            Celtic
            Inter
            Milan
            Rangers
            Boca
Bayern - although they are not the biggest supported in their own country.
            River Plate
            Ajax?
            Juva?
            Roma
            Arsenal
            Santos?

I know there's more than 10, but most would be in there. I think with most of these if not all, we are talking about supporters in the millions.

Liverpool and Man urd stand head and shoulders above the other British clubs IMO.Arsenal are next but a long way behind. I think you have to win trophies in Europe as well as here to be classed as a big club.

Wherever you go in the world people have heard of Liverpool and Man Utd.

                  THE TRUTH
                  The Hillsborough Independent Panel. 12/09/12

Today's report is black and white. The Liverpool fans were not the cause of the disaster.
The panel has quite simply found 'no evidence' in support of allegations of 'exceptional levels of drunkenness, ticketlessness or violence among Liverpool fans' and 'no evidence that fans had conspired to arrive late at the stadium' and 'no evidence that they stole from the dead and dying'.

Agree. But Man U have far more fans world wide than Liverpool.

I know it's not just about number of fans, but I reckon both the two old firm clubs have more fans world wide than Arsenal. Even with the EPL in recent times being huge in Asia.

for someone of my age, there can only be one club... Real... they started it all with european success..no other team comes any where near them. all the rest are still playing catch-up, even after 60 or so years... ok, they have had it easy in spain, them or barca, but they have done it in europe. continually..
and dont say but where are they now.. all teams have a blip...

probably true but i think theres around 8 million people in london so not that far fetched

remember the stat on the advert that 90% fans dont come form manchester personally i think its much more than that

i agree tbh and i also think most players in world football would too they have a power and have an allure no other teams can match (salary helps maybe) especially for the foreign talent

there only problem seems to be that there presidents buy the players and seem to have a big say in what happens on the pitch and the managers dont last five minutes

which for me is the only reason they do struggle at times
