Celtic sign Efrain Juarez

Celtic could be set to land Mexican World Cup defender Efrain Juarez. The Mexican press are reporting that Juarez’s club, UNAM Pumas, have accepted a bid for the player and Celtic are thought to be the interested party.
The link has emerged after Juarez was left out of the Pumas squad that travelled to play a match in the USA. The club’s sporting director Mario Trejo told the press that the player was not included in the travelling party because of advanced transfer negotiations over a move to Europe.
Trejo said that after interest had been expressed, a formal bid had now been received. The Mexican press are suggesting that Celtic are the side who made that offer, though that has not been confirmed by either club.
One newspaper has gone as far as to report that Juarez will sign a three-year deal after completing a medical which is scheduled to take place on Tuesday. That medical is likely to take place in America where Celtic will be on tour. Celtic are also reported to have paid ?2.5 million for the player.
Juarez impressed in three World Cup matches for Mexico in South Africa and would be an interesting addition to Neil Lennon’s squad. The 22-year old defender was part of the Under-17 World Cup winning team in 2005 and spent a year as a Barcelona youth player following that success.
On his return to Mexico in 2008, Juarez established himself in the Pumas side and was called up to the national team last year. He now has 21 international caps for his country.
