Yes, i agree with all those comments......he was a great player....looking at the last few photos taken of him, he did look very poorly indeed.......Lets hope they name a trophy after him....snooker will not be the same without his style.

            THE TRUTH
            The Hillsborough Independent Panel. 12/09/12

Today's report is black and white. The Liverpool fans were not the cause of the disaster.
The panel has quite simply found 'no evidence' in support of allegations of 'exceptional levels of drunkenness, ticketlessness or violence among Liverpool fans' and 'no evidence that fans had conspired to arrive late at the stadium' and 'no evidence that they stole from the dead and dying'.

                    A LEGEND

R I P. Alex "Hurricane" Higgins. The game of Snooker is what it is today because of you. You took this "old" mans game from the working mens clubs and showed the world how it should be played. The champions of their day had to bow down to you as you dominated the game in the 70s early 80s. This marked the end for them and made you a target. You opened the door to the new wave of players who are now making ????s out of the game.
How come you have had to die to get recognised as "The best player ever to pick up a cue"? Where were the snooker elite when you needed them? By the time they saw fit to help it was too late. Only Jimmy cried for you.

                    A LEGEND. R I P.

Not true corky, the snooker fraternity continually tried to help Higgy, running benefit competitions etc, granted not all off them got involved but he did recieve a tremendous amount of help, problem was he was beyond help, much like George Best !
The man was a legend in snooker, and the game is what it is today due to his superb skills and flamboyancy.

                      RIP Higgy

There are a lot of inaccuracies in that post corky. Alex was never a target, he brought all of his troubles upon himself. I don't only mean his personal problems. His cancer is reckoned to have been a direct result of his hard drinking and smoking.

It's pure nostalgia to describe him as "The best player ever to pick up a cue."
He was one of the best players of his generation, and a breath of fresh air who helped popularise snooker; but, the best player ever? No.

...and as skesagypsy has pointed out, he did receive help, but like Georgie he was too far gone.
He who laughs last probably didn't get the joke.
