    Any weight lifters/trainers on here?

    Hi, I have a wee query. I was squatting quite heavy (220k) and like a tube I missed the rack on my last lift. Anyway the full weight came down making me double over with the full weight on my neck, I managed to throw the weights clear stopping me getting crushed. However, I twisted my back but was able to continue with some light stuff but after finishing I knew I had done some damage and now my back is very stiff and sore. I still have limited movement so I think its only muscular.
    What I want to ask is what is best RICE (obviously cant elevate my back) or light resistance. After looking online there seems to be two conflicting schools of thought and having never hurt my back before I'm not sure what is the best (and fastest) procedure to go with. (I am on co-codomol and ibuprofen for the pain)

    i suffer with back problems m8 i would suggest take it easy for a few days then try and get some movement back into your back. resting it for to long will cause your back to stiffen up and take much longer to heal.

      I've also suffered with a bad back, as Maca said, total rest for a few day's. Keep your posture right when sitting, don't slouch. Try to sleep on a hardish mattress. If it's still sore after a few day's, it could be a disc, you could try rolling up a bath towel, lay flat on the ground, pinpoint the pain and place the towel directly under the pain site, between your back and floor, extend your arm's above your head and rock to & fro, tipping the back of your head off the floor. If it's a disc, this should put it back in for you. Rock very gently.

          Thanks for the replies, and I would love to ask my doctor. I did it this morning and missed the available slots for an appointment. There are no appointments till after the new year, my only chance is to phone up tomorrow morning and hope for a cancellation. i don't particularly fancy going to A+E and sitting for hours especially during the xmas rush

              As Maca said backs need movement the worst thing for backs is the old fashioned methods of lie on something hard like a door dont move rest are to me only making matters worse

              the back needs movement to keep it from stiffening up more i have had problems and so has the wife its always agravated by periods of rest that make you believe you need to rest your back

              In truth once you get over the initial pain you my need to force your body at first it definately gets easier the more you move it

              As always see a doc first A+E may be able to help just to make sure you havent broken anything if you have not get it moving as soon as possible

                Rest

                If it seems more of a specific point where the pain is you might need to get it checked out. If you think it's muscle lay off the gym for a few days and get some good physio, you need to get some knuckles and elbows in there. The pain of this will be worse than the injury but should help recover quicker.

                        Back muscle and spinal injuries take time to heal. As others have mentioned, it will be best to get a professional diagnosis.

                        I've had a number of injuries to my back due to weightlifting. When I get back spasms and pain, I do "hangs' on the chinning bar. I hang on the bar for as long as I can. This takes the weight off the back and stretches the spine. The best actually is to hang upside down but you would need some device to do a full inverted hang.

                        Back injuries heal but sometimes the spasms do not disappear because it becomes a "mental" thing. Your brain got used to expecting pain when you move and it stiffens your back muscles to protect the spine. Hanging makes this stiff back muscle relax.

                          Make sure you get propper training to ensure perfect form. This is really essential when doing heavy squats.
                          My form was bad for years without me knowing it before I started training for olympic weightlifting and finally received propper training.
                          Even if you want to do the big 3/power lifts, olympic training can help you learn to perfect your form
