    Messi scoops Ballon d'Or

Barcelona ace Lionel Messi has been named winner of the prestigious Fifa Ballon d'Or award.

Must say thoroughly deserved his scoring/assists record has to be some sort of well record. Amazing player and clearly only him or Ronaldo who also has an amazing goals/games ratio would be worthy of the award.

Messi wouldn't last 6 months playing in the EPL. Also look what team he plays for and where La Liga is a 2 team league oh wait maybe a 1 team league after Real's 5-0 drubbing. I'm not taking anything away from him cause you still have to do it but knowing the facts waters down what he has done. Just look what he did at the WC i didn't even know he was their.

He wouldn't last 6 months in the EPL...rubbish! So what about the champs league?? He didn't do then did he? Who would you give it to? Stevie G or Torres, cause both of them were really good in the world cup..

To be fair i saw him loads in the WC, that Argentina side was amazing.. far better than some of the others, including runners up Holland..

There was no other for me.. I don't think I've ever seen a player read the game like Messi and nowhere near dribble as good as him.. He's the perfect all rounder..

To say he wouldn't cut it in the PL is a bit daft IMHO.. He's far better than Teves who has been consistently good..

He's quiet when teams double man mark him.. says it all really

Forget champion league it's refereed different than the EPL. I'm not saying he not a great player but what i mean physically he would not last in the EPL and they wouldn't stand for him diving when someone just breath on him unless Howard Webb was Referee. Messi and The Grease one did sh*t this world cup. Remember Messi plays for Barca they have great players every where except for Valdez.

Webb pmsl you was still in it at 1-0 until gerrard got 95% of your team sent off. Lets move on eh

He's easily the most gifted team player the world has to offer Messis can still drop his shoulder and leave defenders on their arse but the amount of assists he gets prove that he's more than just an indivual.

Here's his record in La Liga so (ok so La Liga is just a glorified SPL but even so very impressive.

                  last season

                  53 games---------47 goals--------14 assists

                  This term

                  24 games---------27 goals--------15 assists

He's also a tough little bastard and would easily take the prem by storm. Id say Ronaldo is a better all round footballer in terms of athletic ability, skill, speed and power but footballs a team game and Messi has become the ultimate team player.

That's my whole point look where he plays. I'm not taking anything away from his ability But La Liga is a poor league. and he would never get close to those stats if he played in England.

No certainly not the premiership is an extremely different place and La Liga apart from 3-4 teams is pretty much dire. A man of his abilty though would learn to play the premiership and soon be tearing defenses apart he's simply that good it would be more difficult for him to not succeed.

They wouldn't put up with his diving? So what happens now in the EPL? Players don't dive!? You can't say it's just the continental players that dive, as many English players do as well. It's the game now unfortunatley.

Also Messi is a little hard nut. He would have no probs adapting. He's the best player in the world by some distance, it doesn't matter if he plays for Barca - he's a big reason why they are so good.

Out of interest who would you give the award to?

no its not just foreign players that do it. We all know that. But why is it the same players, Get away with it then? The managers should be clamping down on it. But they do not care

Bastian Schweinsteiger he is Clearly the best midfielder in the game. The problem is the award is always given to someone who scores. Like i said i didn't think messi deserved the award just stated things that inflate his stats

From an old centre half...in football the goalscorers get all the credit. I used to hate it! But they are the ones that excite and are often 'technically' the better. As well as the ones who take credit for winning games..

I respect your opinion about Schweinsteiger I think he's a hell of player, but I couldn't put him in front of Messi, Xavi and Iniesta. The two Barca and Spanish midfielders have been different gravy for the last few years now.
