Time Travel Possible?

the impending depletion of fossil fuels will force more research into alternative energy sources.....this will be the lynchpin to new technology.....i would assume 50 years or so will prove the concept of time travel....however the transportation of a person thru time maybe a long way off.Leave a comment:

Either way do you think we will see it in our life time?

IMO time travel will be achieved by 'anchoring' time in a localised area using a type of pod , this is the point of travel and will allow you to hop to other points in time 'anchored' aswell....the technology required will need massive ammounts of energy and will produce conditions similar to a worm hole.....containment of this 'unknown' will be imperative as it could cause massive damage if not contained.Leave a comment:

not actually the case.
from 0mph up to 5.9 million million mph dilation in time happens progressively.
the mass of an object affects how time progresses (relatively) too.
actually this is the crux. as you speed increase so does you mass.
as your mass increase, with speed, its effect on time increase.
so without ever exceeding the speed of light, but getting close, lets say 10 years passed on the ship/spacecraft.
on getting to your destination you will find 100 years have passed, back on earth. (indeed in the rest of space time).
that's time travel without breaking the "light Barrier".
airline pilots and passengers travel forward in time, in relation to the terrestrial population too.
tiny fraction of a second its true.
but as i said, this is how sat nav works.
the difference between the clocks on the sat and those on the earth, tell us where we are.
none of the above is anything like a TARDIS.
which, i guess, is the kind of "Time Machine" most people think of.
but its still Time travel.Leave a comment:

wouldnt we only need to go faster than the rotation of the earth? like superman off of in out of superman?
Come with me on a journey if you will, a journey to the axis of the earth.. now imagine a spinny thing anchored to the axis of the earth.. travel further into theoryland traveller, as the spinnything spins around faster than the earth.. but wait for it... and heres the kicker.. it only spins the opposite way! yeah i went there.. BOOM! just landed a brainbomb on you. what WHAT?Leave a comment:

Time travel great
only possible if you can beat the speed of light
we set time by sun in theory if you could travel faster than the sun hits the earth you may get in the future briefly but it will just be the same only darkLeave a comment:

indeed, i pointed that out in my first post.when time travel is a fact it will be from that point that it will be possible...why you ask????....like all forms of travel you will need a start point and end point....therefore it wont be as simple as pressing a button and landing in 10000 bc.....you will only be able to travel forwards or backwards in time from and to a transmitter/receiver type machine.....you wont be able to travel to a place in time that doesnt have such a machine.....so time travel wont let you travel until that machine is invented.
but there are two (possibly three) options where this may not be so:
1, Time is not linear.
2, we use another dimension to achieve it
3(?) the use of worm holes.
in its most basic sense, we already have time machines.
everything that moves, alters time, in relation to everything else.
those in the ESS are moving through time faster than those of us down here.
indeed sat nav would not work, if this were not so.Leave a comment:

It?s a fact, marriage is a time warp. Notice u marry a nice beautiful 25 years old, after just 2 years u look like your father, and your wife starts looking like your granny.Leave a comment:

time travelling atom
When they first smashed two hydrogen atoms into each other to slit an atom , as far as i know the scientists didn?t measure the (escape velocities) ,the speed it fly?s apart at , so we may have already had our first time travelling atom,Leave a comment:

oh FFS.waiting to see if they can duplicate these results at CERN, fascinating stuff!
PressTV - Time travel possible? E=mc2 wrong?
there is nothing in Einstein's E=MC2 that precludes time travel. indeed it confirms it. but just one way, forward.
time slows, as speed increases.
, that's not even theory. its fact!
It also suggests, given enough power/energy. it may be possible both ways, via Worm holes.
scientists have not confirmed that they have seen partials (with mass) travelling faster than light..
the Cern experiment is still an anomaly. even those who saw the results. think it is a error, somewhere in the experiment.
not only that, but neutrinos APPEARING to travel faster than light. has been seen before, in the 80's i think. connected with a Super Nova.
it all really depends on whether time in linear, as we observe it, or not. something, as yet, "we just don't know." (copy right P. Moore)
either way, as someone has said. you can only go back in time, if there is a Time Machine, where you want to go.
so if we can go back in time, it would only be to the first time a machine was ever invented.
I've often thought that UFO's, Greys and all that. were actual time travelling humans (or an evolution of such) but that would mean a working Time Machine was up and running, a minimum of 60 years, possibly millennia ago!Leave a comment:

so from what i can make of it you dont actually travel back in time you just move through time slower as u get closer to the speed of light. So basically u become a polition and stay still while everything else moves forward.Leave a comment:

Hi guys, thanks for this, very interesting article and update. Just for background (as I didn't see it posted), the following link is to Stephen Hawking's 'How to build a time machine' from April 27 2010 - I know the article pre-dates the work conducted recently at CERN however, I found some of theory surrounding paradoxes and the practicalities of such travel really interesting so thought I would share :-)
