Will world will end in 2012 ?

I'll go with the majority - 2012 it is. It's starting to get a bit monotonous. Last time I got wiped out when a meteorite hit - I was a dinosaur then, but got re-incarnated as a human. I can't wait to see what I'll get reincarnated to next time :-)

I've been doing some reading about this lately and it seems that the world won't end in 2012 BUT actually 28th October 2011

Many people hear about the so-called end date of the Mayan calendar, and today some people have even created the illusion that the Mayan calendar was designed only to point out this end date. In reality, there is nothing to indicate that the ancient Maya who developed the Long Count calendar had any interest in what would happen as this calendar came to an end. Instead what the ancient Mayan scriptures talk about is its beginning. The exact date for this beginning was apparently based on the day of the year, August 11, when the sun was in zenith in Izapa, where most likely this calendar first came into use. Ancient Mayan inscriptions also talk about this time as the time when the First Father erected the World Tree so that the light could enter, a significant event in creation. The various dynasties in the different Mayan city-states would then try to track a relationship to this seminal event by First Father and legitimize their power based on this.

The fact that the Mayan Long Count was based on the day the sun was in zenith in Izapa, has however created a very significant misunderstanding among modern people, and this is that it would end on December 21, 2012. The particular date the sun is in zenith in this location obviously has no relevance in the rest of the world, but because of the power of tradition some will still adhere to it. In reality, the creation cycle that began as the First Father erected the World Tree will end on October 28, 2011. This day is also 13 Ahau in the sacred Mayan calendar, an energy with great prophetical relevance.

Archaeologists discovered a stone at the ancient site of Coba in the Yucatan. When they raised the stone, they discovered that carvings on the stone showed the creation date of the Mayan Calendar. When the carvings were translated they found the start date of the most recent period and could then extrapolate the ending date more accurately.

It is also pretty close to a Christian belief that the end of the world will occur on October 21st 2011.

The major flaws in the argument are

1) How would the Mayans know 500 years ago that the world would end on a pseudo-random date just because it was the end of the calendar they created on a fairly arbitrary basis just because the sun happens to be at it's zenith on that date

2) If the world is prophesied to end on that particular date, it bears no credibility without an indication of what will cause the wipeout - tsunami, meteorite, tectonic plates freaking out or whatever. It's like the Government saying it will reduce income tax or remove tax on petrol without saying how they will pay for it!

3) Cronus - It can't be 2011, cos we have to get the Olympics in London out of the way first - and in any case the lane widening on the M25 won't be finished until 2014/2015

There are definate arguments for both dates but the 2012 one is actually more disturbing and science proven.

It seems to be coming more apparent that solar activity is having a large influence on the earth. We've recently had a large increase in solar activity and since then five major (above magnitude 7.0) earthquakes... Chile, Japan, Pakistan, Mexico, and now Sumatra.

And look whats happening in 2012...

Data from NASA and other scientific sources point to something big in 2012. The solar cycles will peak like never before in the last 400 years. The 400 - year cycle normally is associated with severe volcanoes, earthquakes, devastating floods, storms and Tsunamis. Many of these 400-year cycles have seen mind boggling super volcanoes. Solar cycle 24, due to peak in 2010 or 2011 may be delayed by six months to a year it seems. But effects of that delay can be severe.

When a gust of solar wind hits Earth's magnetic field, the impact causes the magnetic field to shake. If it shakes hard enough, we call it a geomagnetic storm. When moderate in historical terms, these storms cause power outages and make compass needles swing in the wrong direction. Auroras are a beautiful side-effect. But when the magnitude escalates many times, many other geo-physical effects start happening. The amount of geomagnetic activity now tells the scientists what the solar cycle is going to be like 6 to 8 years in the future.

A computer model monitoring the recent seismic disturbances ? earthquakes and volcanoes show extreme disturbance in the outer and inner core of the earth. The interaction of the inner core and the rest of the earth cause the electromagnetic properties of the earth. The ongoing polar reversal is accelerating and will eventually have reverse polarity in North and South pole. According to the simulation model, the earth?s inner core and outer core is going through some serious disturbances. That in turn is influencing the viscous semi fluid mantle. When that happens, the convection within mantle increases substantially. That is also influenced by solar polar reversal. In our modern age we have not experienced a simultaneous solar and terrestrial polar reversal. Between now and 2012, these disturbances will keep increasing making earth?s crust and tectonic plates very disturbed causing severe volcanoes and earthquakes.

Leothelion, I was referring to the year 2000. At the moment a planet has appeared to one side of the sun and was noticeable during a recent eclipse. It is believed that this planet is NIBIRU which is orbiting in an anticlockwise elliptical motion in a 3600 year cycle. It is also believed that NIBIRU will become more visible in our skies soon looking like a second sun by day and second moon by night. The story of NIBIRU suggests that we all belonged to this planet centuries ago and we set up a slave colony on earth to harvest its minerals (I say we in the past tense- the we now-us here -are the colony created) The Earth and its other 8 near neighbours are orbiting clockwise and perhaps with the passing of NIBIRU in an opposite motion may create an upset to all-perhaps the polar shift that`s spoken about. 10 or 20 degrees? No one is sure. But it is suggested that whatever the shift- it will put Ireland more southerly towards the Equator. That means that more people will be holidaying in Ireland and LEO you know what that means? Yes more planes into Dublin. If you are in the flight path then SORRY LEO.

The Physicists
This one's case of bog-simple maths mathematics. Physicists at Berekely Uni have been crunching the numbers. and they've determined that the Earth is well overdue for a major catastrophic event. Even worse, they're claiming their calculations prove, that we're all going to die, very soon - while also saying their prediction comes with a certainty of 99 percent- and 2012 just happens to be the best guess as to when it occurs.

Leo, dont frighten the kids. Break it to them gently- start including small bits in their bedtime stories- Once upon a time there was three bears and a lizard - and slowly expand from there. Seriously Leo, I dont think the world will end in 2012 but I do think that some major event will happen. You can type in NIBIRU on youtube if you like and add a piunch of salt to flavour.
