There is debait wheter AV is needed, if you take some precautions you should be fine to actually get a virus you need to install it and hackers are finding unique and innovative ideas to fool you into installing infected software if you stick to the offical play store, ect you should be fine. Here are a few good AV's

AVG
Bitdefender
Trustgo
Lookout

Bitdefender uses cloud scanning and requires virtually no setup and is light on resources, it also came out ontop along with Trustgo for 100% detection rate, however you require internet access to scan.
