Thinking of rooting?...... Read this first.

Been a bit down recently & not shown the same interest in anything.

But I have some info for those of you that are thinking of rooting their phones.
If you only want to flash custom ROM's or just play around with the various standard ROM's out there....

You don't need to root.

There's an unlocking box out there that will unlock & give you SuperCID (11111111) allowing you to flash the handset without rooting.

If it sounds like this will help you, just call around your local unlocking shops. If they have the XTC Clip, they can do this for you. I'd expect a price of around ?20

Thing is if you install a custom rom then your warranty is void anyway so may as well root for free and stock roms can be flashed without rooting anyway. But has to be done manually through odin

But how many people change their ROM's without unlocking the phone first?

I should of made this a bit clearer, but this is for HTC handsets. As far as I'm aware Odin is for Samsung, I could be wrong. But it's a doddle to use & you can always flash back.

Not many I agree as custom roms generaly have root build into rom and if this method makes it safer for htc users that have locked bootloaders them I'm all for it...Will this work with the older htc with locked bootloaders or are they still going to be restricted to temp root only ??

I'm still waiting for the XTC Clip to be delivered, if the boss actually ordered it.

Once I have it & get the chance to play I'll let you know. Rooting isn't really my thing, usually only jailbreak the ishite or flash samsung, nokia & blackberry handsets.

But if people here are thinking of playing with their HTC's this might make their life easier. If they can find a shop that has it.

Will this work with the older htc with locked bootloaders or are they still going to be restricted to temp root only ??

I've now gone solo & got my own xtc clip.

As far as the SuperCID goes, all of the phones in the supported list will have the bootloaders unlocked. I've had problems with some of the older Windows Mobile 6 handsets, just not communicating with the box.

Splashed out on a schubert cable, confirmed Windows 7 handsets CID 11111111

Not sure if this list has changed....
