Most of the app 2 sd apps are free and do not require root if you only need space on the phone...The only reason root is required when using one of these type of app is to force the move of an app that was not designed to run from the sd and in doing so may stop the app working the way it was designed causing force close issues. If an app has been tested to run from sd on 2.2 and above it will have that option available and will not require root in order to be moved and any of the free app 2 sd apps will be good enough and also allow updates through the market when a new version is released which you don't get with cracked apps
