Live video to Video calling phones ?

As the title suggests, I am wanting to know what are the best all in one mobile phones that me and the wife can do Live video to video chat on, we are on the Giffgaff network ? ( I also have to add that I want the cheapest of the best phones that are capable to do the things I ask if at all possible, I dont want to spend super crazy iphone money etc if you get me).

So, just to make it clear, I want to buy 2 phones outright (no contracts), and they have to be easily capable of Live Video to Video calls on the Giffgaff network, right now we only have 3g capable phones and I know that giffgaff are only now trialing 4g in certain areas of uk, so I guess that it needs to be able to work on 3g, but I have no idea at all if live video to video is even going to work on 3g nomatter what phone it is, is it ?

Anyways, hope someone in the know can maybe help me, thanks

Any phone that has a front facing camera will be able to make video calls. The problem is with the price of the calls.

If you use the network to direct video call it's gonna cost you 50p/m.

I don't do skype, but it might end up cheaper than the network.

According to their website, Skype will work on any android device running 2.2 or higher.

Just had a quick look on ebay. There are loads of chinese android phones going dirt cheap. Most are at 99p up to about ?30. As long as you don't break or factory reset them, they should be fine.

If you find one you like... google it for reviews & search ebay for lcd's & digitizers. If parts are available it means it's a popular phone.

hmmm, thanks mate, but are you sure ?

I was on my computer one night chatting to a family member in the USA (I'm in Scotland), he was on a top of the range iphone and as I say, I was on my computer, we were using Skype like you say, but every time he moved about too much on his iphone the picture went all blurry until he eventually settled down again and stayed perfectly still, I remember him mention something to me like its because mobile phones, just about all of them, haven't got powerful enough processors in them to actually do good Live Video and Audio chat, and as I say, he has a top of the range iphone too, so I don't know man.

I don't doubt you for one second mate, but I am just saying what he said, that's all....don't get me wrong, when he did just sit still then it was fine, but the second he moved his picture would just go all pixelated etc, but I could still hear him, but I guess that's acceptable so long as ya sit still.

The wife has an Android phone, its a couple of years old though, its an HTC wildfire S model, too be honest though, the phone is ok just simply as a phone etc, but to me it is very slow and doing things etc, plus I don't have another android phone to even test out the video to video calls using Skype anyway, that's why I was asking maybe about getting two new ones like I mentioned in the first post etc.

You would be better running Skype or any other Video Calling softwre via home wifi network. If will be much faster.

There will be lots of other software other than Skype

The Ishite was limited on first launch so wifi was needed to 'Facetime'. You're also looking at an international call going through how many networks???

The picture breaks up due to poor bandwidth as well as a slow phone.

If you've ever watched the news & seen someone reporting live via satellite phone, that's that you'll get when using a mobile phone. It's expensive & shite.
