question on updating a rooted galaxy note 2

i see a lot of videos on youtube showing how to update firmware on a rooted galaxy note 2, but they dont seem to say what data is lost.

my question.... i am on three network in ireland...i am on stock firmware 4.1.2 and am rooted. i cannot do software update through phone menu.

will using triangle away let my phone update to kitkat (which three say will be pushed to galaxy note 2's in next week) through the phones menu option ??.....and if it did, will i lose data / apps etc. ?

is there another way that i could update the phone without losing data / apps / customisation etc ??

thanks in advance to anyone who replies.

(my main reason for doing this, without looking into other benefits, is to get mirroring function with sound to my chromecast)

    Honestly.... Don't do it.

Samsung have upped their game against rooting/unlocking. If you install 4.4.2 (Kitkat) any apps that use the memory card for storage will not work correctly. Access to the memory card is limited to official samsung apps only. Some verified apps can gain access, but they are few and far between.

I'm not sure there things stand on rooting 4.4.2, you really should look into this before trying to update.

OTA updates should not work on a rooted phone. But that depends on how it was rooted. Injected SU files would allow OTA updates, where a PDA flash file would not allow OTA.

The choice is yours. But personally I'd leave it on 4.1.2
