Hi all, ran into some bother here.

I bought an iPhone 4 last night from gumtree.

I phone 4 16GB, 1month old, unlocked, ?320 !Bargain! Other Musical Instruments for Sale Belfast Belfast

I've tried everything to get this thing up and going. I've tried both o2 and Vodaphone sim cards in it but all I can get up is a single bar with no carrier logo. When I try to dial out it says call failed. I had to jailbreak to get it to activate so I could do try this.

The guy had an orange sim card in it. Does this mean it's locked to Orange? He did say he bought it in carphone warehouse and I thought all their phones came unlocked anyway? Does the one bar come up if it's been locked to orange?

Any help is appreciated. I've tried googling but don't seem to be coming up with any answers.

I'm a bit scared incase they have reported phone as stolen or something.

mate have you instaled the very latest firmware on the phone via itunes- this will update the carrier signals.

Factory Unlock or Jailbreak Unlock ?....Upgrading firmware is ok to do...need to take extra precautions if you rely on an unlock via Jailbreak.

I too purchased a supposedly unlocked iphone 4, and had the same issue, took it in to apple store - after restoring to un jailbroken - they can check their database turned out mine was locked to orange, orange will get apple to unlock it via itunes if its been on their network for at least 3 months, l needed a pay as you go orange sim and had to add credit as that's the only way they take the payment of ?21
