Upgrade it to 4.2.1 (max fw a 3g supports) and jailbreak it with redsn0w.

just a quick one dude, just noticed on the box for the phone that its a 3gs not a 3g. make any differance?

havnt done owt yet, cept sync with itunes which offered me an upgrade to 4.3.3 i think but i cancelled it.

anyway things just got a lot easier for you n me.

still back up, you can sync later

1:have your iphone plugged in,it is a 3gs right?

2:goto jailbreakme.com in safari

3:slide the bar.....done! haha,jailbroken

4:go into cydia and install the ultrasn0w ,unlocked

check all`s well

then follow my guide here http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...tom-fw-206125/

you will then be on newest firmware with unlock and preserved baseband...just like ME !! HAHA

g'day captain mannering, i have a small problem when following your guide to the custom firmware 4.3.3

i follow the process listed here.........1: download files remember iphone 3gs 4.3.3 this is.

iphone 4 download coming later(NOT VERIZON)

2pen ireb choose your device = iphone 3gs and let it put your phone into pwned dfu state

3pen itunes,it will tell you ,you have iphone in recovery mode
and need to update/restore....

DO NOT SIMPLY CLICK RESTORE!!! see below!!!!

4:YOU HAVE TO HOLD SHIFT WHILE CLICKING RESTORE THIS WILL OPEN UP BOX AND YOU POINT TO THE CUSTOM 4.3.3 YOU JUST DOWNLOADED and let it restore
once finished ,IT WILL DISPLAY NEW IPHONE OR RESTORE FROM BACKUP,IF YOU BACKED UP YOUR DEVICE YOU CAN RESTORE FROM THAT BACKUP
you will be on the same baseband AS BEFORE and can use ULTRASN0W TO UNLOCK THROUGH CYDIA ETC...ETC...

........and have no problems until step 4, the restore section. no box opens up for me to point to the 4.3.3 firmware.

Mmm maybe your iTunes what version is it,should be ok though.

So you plug iPhone in and iTunes starts and tells u you are in recovery and need to restore?
Then you hold shift down while clicking restore?
And no box opens up to find your fw?

Re-install iTunes/upgrade if a newer version

,backup your iPhone again when done and try custom restore to the custom4.3.3 you downloaded again
