There are obviously quite a few peeps on DK who know their stuff more than I do.. but no-one's written a newbie guide yet so...
Preface : After i jailbroke my iPhone, i expected to be able to copy cracked apps to it straight away... WRONG, so i've written this to fill in the gaps a bit for other virgin jailbreakers. I've started where most jailbreak guides finish, so, if you haven't jailbroken your phone yet, follow one of the jailbreak tuts on here. Everything has been tested on iPhone 4 version 4.3.3
1) Cydia repositories .
cydia is an app installed in the jailbreak process, used for downloading apps/themes/extensions that are not found in the official app-store... it uses a repository system, think of each repository as a remote folder containing apps, when new repos are added to your list, cydia has more places to look when searching for specific apps/mods. Add the following repos to cydia's list, one-by-one, by opening cydia, tapping the manage button at the bottom, then tap sources, hit the edit button, then add.
...
There are tons of other repos out there, but the ones above will get you through all the steps that follow.
2) Appsync and installous.
Even though you're jailbroken, iTunes will still give you an error when trying to install apps that haven't come from the app-store, to get round this wh need to put appsync on your device.. also installous is an appstore type app that gives access to cracked apps directly on your phone, it's kinda like a cracked app-store with some other uses that'll get covered later.... In cydia search for installous and install the one from SiNfuL iPhone repo as this has appsync bundled in with it.
Now you can download app .ipa files from filesharing/torrent/newsgroup sites on your PC, and then use itunes to sync apps to your iphone just as you would normally, apart from that appsync hides out-the-way, installous gives you a new icon on your springboard for searching/installing cracked app-store apps directly on the phone. More on installous here.
...
3) SBSettings & Activator
SBSettings is a customisation app that gives access to handy toggle switches for things like data/3g/wifi/bluetooth from anywhere on the iphone.. no need to go back to the homescreen settings menu anymore to switch wifi on/off. Also can reboot/respring and has some other handy options to play with... in cydia search for sbsettings and install it from the BigBoss repo (default cydia repo). Once installed you'll get a new menu option in settings labled 'activator'... good idea to open 'activator' , go into the 'anywhere' tab and remove the links to sbsettings from the swipe down/swipe left/swipe right tabs in the 'status bar' section by tapping on them... then add a link to sbsettings in both 'At home screen/status bar/swipe down' and 'In application/status bar/swipe down'. That way whenever you swipe the status bar down, you'll get a menu like this... but it wont 'go-off' in your pocket.
..
You can also use the activator mini-applet bundled with SBSettings to launch user defined apps or actions for hardware commands like shake device, holding home, double tapping sleep..etc, handy for setting things like, holding vol up/down to prev/next track.4) Sort out your bluetooth. Also includes iFile, myTunes, and ActionMenu.
As it is, bluetooth functionality on the iphone is restricted, apple don't want you sharing stuff like mp3s or pictures incase it looses out on a few quid.. no bother though, you can get round apple's bluetooth nazis by following the seperate guide here : http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...iphone-207489/ (It also includes installing mytunes and ifile as part of the guide which are used to access parts of the phone's directory tree apple didn't want you to play with, including your phone's ipod mp3 library, and actionmenu which gives a handy context-menu when highlighting objects).
5) Setup SSH on your phone. Also includes mobileterminal
Using SSH is a way of transferring files to/from your iphone using your home wifi network, you can copy .ipa files to installous's download directory ( /private/var/mobile/Documents/Installous/Downloads/ ) and install them via installous, without using itunes... plus you can copy media from any iphone without having to worry about itunes throwing a wobbler because you're not authorised to sync multiple devices... set-up SSH using this seperate guide here : http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...g-wifi-208953/
6) Access Full iphone filesystem over USB
You can browse your iPhones filesystem using a USB connection (just like you can when using a SSH connection over wifi mentioned above, but more reliable, and much faster), by using either of these tools on your PC... i-FunBox (recomended) or iPhoneBrowser. Recent jailbreaking apps don't enable root SSH-over USB, which these tools need to work properly, so install afc2add through cydia to get full filesystem access. Thanks to fijiman for the heads-up on afc2add.
