can i put iphone into standby mode?

hi , can i set my iphone3 in to standby mode over night" and still have my alarm go off" in the morning, ? i had a old nokia that i could turn off at night, and the alarm went off as normal in the morning, its for power saveing, can you do this with iphone3? thanks ,,, ranger,

I think it is automatic standby if using autolock,or pressing power button and screen goes blank,not brilliant though but yet does save power.you can also alter brightness this will help with power
I used to have a nokia and that was a good feature I liked

Why not set the alarm for in 5 minutes time and then turn it off?

It doesnt work, the alarm goes off when you turn the phone back on....later

You can take the phone in airplane mode - so it can save battery and will not ring in the night...
Other way is to buy some alarm app in cydia, but i doubt it will work when the phone is off...

not sure that any will work with phone off,but hey let me know if anyone finds one....i want the same but cant be arsedd to check through all available apps for alarm clocks

You can do exactly what you want with the native alarm clock....set your alarm clock to the desired time...quick press on the power button to go into "standby"(blank/black screen) job done..alarm goes off.

still chews the battery power because its not off,i usually have mine plugged in when i need the alarm

If shutdown, no. (Did you use the red slider?)
If just in standby, yes. (just top power button)

no is the simple answer,
the phone MUST be on for the alarm to work
its aeroplane mode for power saving and the alarm to function correctly
