Musclenerd, a well known member of the Iphone Dev Team, showed pictures of IOS 5 running the Cydia application that allows users to load applications that are not available on Apple's strictly controlled App Store. More importantly, Musclenerd showed off shell access to his fourth generation Ipod Touch.

I decided to upgrade to ios 5.0....broke my rule of " Never upgrade/jailbreak until firmware has an Untethered jailbreak" I just wanted to say I'm really enjoying this firmware....Notifications..work well...as soon as they port the current redsn0w(Mac only) to windows I will be jailbreaking...

You can buy a developers activation for about $7 or ?4.50 ish...iOS Beta Activations be aware your installing a Beta firmware....(you can wait till Autumn when the full release will be available ).....you can install for free....you have to do some googling.. but heard to many horror stories...finding the current beta quite stable so far...


I may downgrade eventually..back to 4.3.3 if I start missing my jailbreak tweaks..

Here is one of the first new widgets released for ios5...like sbsettings but integrates into ios notifications...

Went back down to 4.3.3....missed my jailbreak tweaks...missed folderenhancer and dock most of all....I think I will upgrade again when the redsn0w jailbreak for 5.0beta gets ported to windows...running "stock" with folders and apps everywhere freaked me out...I like my springboard empty and with one page only.



edit : guess who's updating again tonight...after finishing writing this post had a quick look around..... found windows jailbreak is now available..doh

I must be weird.

I am still on 3.1.2, aint ever upgraded, and dont really plan on upgrading either. Nothing in the new IOS cannot be done on a JB device. Or nothing I use anyways.

It does depend on what tweaks you got....and what model of iDevice you own...iPhone 2G and 3G are going to be more and more restricted on the types of tweaks and apps that will load on them... hopefully this year the iPhone 4GS will be released and next year the iPhone 5 will appear... I think the 3GS firmware will stop at 5.0 which will be released this Autumn.

....But your right if all you need is on 3.1.2...why the need for an upgrade.?


I must be going bonkers... having some major problems with MobileSubstrates in 5.0beta1 after jailbreak....downgraded back to 4.3.3....might try again with 5.0beta2...

Half the fun is trying to fix the problem after the ~~~ up....you get to learn what your iPhone can do. Been jailbreaking since 1.1.2 firmware...I've lost count the number of times I thought I bricked my iPhone....

You would be hard pushed to really "brick" an iPhone on the latest firmware and jailbreaking software...

How is this different from any other version of the Ipohnes software

Some apps won't run on older fw,also it is known that if you install wrong fw etc on wrong phone etc then you may have a brick but still if the phone is unlocked anyway then updating custom firmware is a must if you don't want problems with newer apps,tweaks etc..unlockers or those that are upto date always have a choice...always ask if unsure capabilities are uncertain and are determined by fw/baseband
