No sms tone

As the title says, I have tried all the obvious and think I'll have to restore, Phone is jailbroken and has lots of enhancements, it's possible that there is some conflict but have tried disabling anything to do with sms and it's still the same, hard reset made no difference. So if I restore & re jailbreak will I lose all my hooky repos and operating system changes, or does re-syncing put things back to how I have it set now, I'm on 4.2.1 firmware

Too many to list m8 just had as look and theres 67, but the ones that might effect SMS are I call announce, call controller & the delivery report one that sends flash messages that you posted

Any "Ringtone" making apps...?

First check..SBSetting>Power>SafeMode

Once in Safe mode check for SMS tone...?

No ringtone apps, safe mode fixes it but exiting safe mode breaks it again

Back into SBSetting>More>Mobile Substrate Addons

Toggle off one at a time until you find the problem....it will point to the problem Cydia app..


edit : Don't forget to test between each toggle on/off

Found it! It was Icallannounce which has it's volume set by iPod volume - it was set to none! So text tone has been missing a while, just didn't notice! And also didn't notice Icallannounce had also stopped announcing only noticed I was missing any alert to a new SMS. Many thanks Fijiman saved me doing a restore
