Buy a cheap code reader that's able to read your car's fault codes....buy an app from iTunes like OBD11 Car Diagnostics to explain the fault code in depth to you...Buy a load of workshop tools to fix your car...then take it to the local garage to get fixed....
A real diagnose, on Low-Level with the internal of a car, has to be done with hardware such as a Renault Clip. These devices work as a passthrough between your car and a PC, and you have to connect them with a cable. The tools are only available for Windows as far as I know.
And even if you could manage to connect it to your iPhone, it still won't do the job, because these devices are clients, so is your iPhone, so you would need a method to turn your iPhone into a host device.
If you want to play with this stuff and try it, at least don't try it with an iPhone, go with Android or Linux, which have decent Host-modes. But these diagnosis tools are very expensive as far as I know, so I don't know if it is worth it.
