jailbreaking iphone

Hi I'm new to all this but Ive heard about jailbreaking and can anyone let me know how to do it.
My phone is a apple iphone 3gs and is on contract to o2 and also what are the pro's and con's of jailbreaking.

Use the safari browser on ur iphone and go to....JailbreakMe 3.0

will do it 4 u in seconds.

Is it still possible to jailbreak and if so I'm not a techie so is there anywhere that i can find out how to do it for dummies

nope unfortunately not. You will probably have to wait for ios 5 to be jailbroken.

It can be tether jailbroken (meaning you can not turn your phone on or off without re jailbreaking), that is done with redsn0w.

in itunes plug you phone the press shift+ restore and go to werever you downloaded the firmware. restore it the original 3gs 4.1 ipsw

then download the latest redsn0w here

you will need to get your phone into dfu mode.
while the phone is on and connected to itunes press the both buttons for 10 secs let go of the power button and keep holding on to the home button for another 10. itunes should say its in recovery mode. then open redsnow and point it to the 4.1 ipsw again. select only cydia and keep pressing next your phone will restore with cydia on it..
