problem backing up and updating iphone 4

iam currently trying to update my iphone 4 firmware version 4.3.5 to ios 5 with the latest itunes 10.5 on windows 7 pc
but i want to save all my data (backup) from my iphone so i dont lose it all before i update
it seems as if i cant back up my iphone with itunes as it says delete older backup before backing current iphone up
i dont have a previous backups as ive check my computer in the folders 'users\username\appdata etc
is there programme which can backup and then update my iphone or just backup and use itunes so i can update then use it after its done

any help or guide will be very greatfull thanks

Just make sure you backup with iTunes....before updating to 5.0....
If you use any 3rd party software while on 4.3.5 to backup, you may hit major problems trying to re-sync back when your on the new 5.0 firmware...

i cant backup with itunes tho thats where am getting stuck

sort this now all i did was used itunes 10.3.1 to backup data from iphone then used 10.5 to update to ios 5

why your here .. my daughter 3g is shutting down now and again and taking 20 minutes to restart so going to put 4.2.1 back on it with redsnow , if l back up in itunes and reinstall software and jailbreak again will all her app transfer from itunes backup ? or will the f/w overwrite and save apps anyway
