Jailbreaked iphone 3gs - Updating itunes

I have just recieved a jailbreaked iphone 3gs and was informed not to update itunes cos I would lose the jailbreak. However, when I plugged the phone into itunes it said I need itunes 9.2 or later (I have an earlier version of itunes due to an old jailbreaked iphone 3g which I recently lost).

My question is: Is it pssible for me to update my itunes at all without losing my jailbreak?

My phone says (if it helps):

Version: 4.1 (8B177)
Modem Firmware 06.15.00

You can upgrade iTunes without any problems to your iPhone. You are on what is called a UnTethered jailbreak...which is good....if you upgrade the firmware, currently the only jailbreak available is a Tethered jailbreak...which is basically shit. You may encounter errors if you try to update the firmware as you are have an iPad baseband(Modem Firmware)...bad...you will need to update via a custom build firmware..Good Luck

If he is on the old boot rom then it's good. Anyone with a 3GS that has the old bootrom can upgrade to ios5 and have a untethered jailbreak. But the need to check first with something like redsnow

Ya sn0wbreeze would be your only option since you can't restore to stock firmware on the iPad bandbase
