Why is my iPhone bettery runni gout ever since I got the update IOS 5?

I have an iPhone 4 and before the iOS 5 update the battery hasn't lasted as long as it used to. I used to be able to watch YouTube like.. All day and it would still have half it's bettery by the time I went to bed. And if I only browse the Internet for a little, played some apps, listened to music, and texted some, the battery would be pretty much full by the end of the day.

But now I end up having to charge it by like 9pm

What's causing this and how can I shut that feature off

Best way to extend the life on your battery is to close down your apps when mot using them and keeping 3g turned off if not using that too. Press the home button twice to see the apps which are running in the background then shut them down individually by holding the app icon till a red line appears above it.

The problem is IOS 5. Apple said there were features running in the background that should not be and was draining battery life. So they sorted this out by bringing out IOS 5.0.1.
So if your not bothered about jailbreaking, as a unthethered jailbreak should be out soon for IOS 5 but not for IOS 5.0.1 for sometime. Then update to IOS 5.0.1

My iPhone battery sometimes is good and sometimes it just dies. I tried and it made some difference with closing apps running in the background.

If you play any graphically brilliant game or 3d game then you can kiss goodbye to your battery power.

Facebook eats my battery life more than any other app !
