just got a 2nd hand iphone 3g for the father in law and he wants it jailbreaking, it got 4.2.1 on it whats the best way to do it?

i did my iphone 4 with jailbreakme.com but this will not work on the 3g,

greenpoison rc6.1 is by far the easiest jailbreak for 4.2.1

cant get it to work,, will not go in to that dfu mode

just worked out its not for the 3g iphone

You have to put the phone into dfu mode to jailbreak. Are you following the dfu instructions to the tee? by holding down the sleep and home button together then letting go of the sleep button when the apple logo appears but still holding the home button then release the home button when your pc beeps.

Sound like the sleep or home button is faulty, that's why it will not go into dfu mode.
Have a read of this site it shows you how to enter dfu mod using your pc
