    3gs update problem

hi , m8 dropped a phone off and wanted it jailbroke but was on 05.16.02

4.3.5 , jailbroke and its was tethered so l cleaned with ired and tried to update to 5.0.1 but its stops and hangs at about 20% , tried a custom ipsw and install to about 50% and did the same . any ideas , no errors in itunes
the custom l was trying was iPhone 3GS-5.0.1_BB6.15.00_Activated_www.iPhoneRock.com , the phone on 02 and dosnt need to be unlocked
    cheers

Depending on the age of the 3GS you can truly "Brick" the iPhone... using the iPad baseband fix. If you don't need to unlock the iPhone you shouldn't use that custom firmware....just update the iPhone through iTunes in the normal way...then 10min with the latest Redsn0w to jailbreak..
