Error fix for itunes 1600?

I have been trying to upgrade two iphones to 5.0.1, one from 4.1 and the other from 4.3. I keep running into the 1600 error when restoring, upgrading or anything! I get it when i try to use custom firmware, i even get it when i try to use the apple official one. I've looked at all manner of suggested fixes, and none work. I see ireb exists for just this eventuality6, but not for iphone4. Am i the only person who has this problem?
Any suggestions wold be much appreciated.

Baseband only matters if you plan to unlock...always upgrade baseband if you only want to jailbreak..


Smirnoff is right, try a different computer/USB cable....may have better luck

Thanks for this. I've downloaded the mac link, but it doesn't do iphone4 yet!
Might try running my mac in pc mode with parallels and see if that does the trick.

Oh yes, re the baseband I've got a couple of phones i'm trying to upgrade.
One is on 4.1 (01.59.00) soft unlocked with ultrsnow. The other one is on 4.3.3 (04.10.01) but that's officially unlocked by vodafone, so i can do an apple restore but it won't even do that (same 1600 error)

i think you need to put the phone into Pwned DFU Mode.using ireb to get around the 1600 error

Getting pretty cheesed off with the whole thing now, but you're right.
i'll get the mac to impersonate a pc and see what happens1

it can get tedious with all these errors etc and fixes,but hey nothing is straightforward these days

Well this is nuts!
I simply set up my mac as a pc using parallels, and then did a restore using the pc version of itunes. and it worked - no need to put thr iphone in pwned dfu, no need for ireb no error messages......
So i have a solution, but its not really a satisfactory one as there doesn't seem to be a good reason for it to work while using the mac doesn't.
It the same solution, i guess, as "try using a different computer"
As a bit of a purist, I would like to know what to change on my mac in osx mode to make it work however.
Anyway guys - thanks for all your help. all least it made me stick at it until i sorted the upgrade b4 the dreaded 5.1 blows the jailbreak
