How to upgrade jail broken iPhone 4 to ios5

Ok my mate has asked me to update is iPhone 4 to ios5 it's jail broken with cydia or something like that I plugged it into iTunes and restored it
Everything started fine but after about 3 minutes it says timed out

I've tried this 3 or 4 times and it says the same thing each time any ideas ?

You will need to use redsn0w to update a custom iOS IPSW

Go to a site called iClarified, click on tutorials, iPhone, should get all the info there.

I updated mine to IOS 5.01 from JB.

Just update as normal, then use the redsnow tool to re-jailbreak the device. Green absinthe or something its called.
