No you cant currently unlock BB 05.16.05! and it doesnt look likely it will be unlockable in the future either.

There is a way of unlocking it by installing the Ipad Baseband but I would recommend against doing that as you will lose your GPS permanently! Paying vodaphone is the only real way of unlocking it.

install the ipad basdeband there are numerous fixes for the gps including one in absinthe 2.1 and plenty in cydia, believe me i sorted my mrs fone out same baseband and ios version, just remember to install ultrasn0w fixer after ultrasn0w 1.2.5

You are right stevieboy, however its not guaranteed that you can get it working and currently there is no way back to a previous BB. Plus the only fix that does work guaranteed requires the use of an external Bluetooth GPS. I was trying to avoid him having issues with it if he went ahead with it and did the upgrade. It was easier to say permanently!

Ive got a locked iphone 3GS and Ive only recently been looking into the whole thing and decided against it even though I have a bluetooth GPS. There also many other things that can go wrong with the ipad BB being installed so its best to avoid at all costs and it also depends what bootrom its using ie when it was made.

Im just waiting out the 3mths time period with Orange France. As they wont unlock it for free even though the phone is 3yrs old almost until the card in the phone has been used with the phone for 3mths. Then all I have to do is contact them and they unlock it.
