    iphone 4 nightmare

Hi all, had a right mare with this phone today that someone asked me to have a look at.
Basically, in normal mode it just has the apple logo, that stays on for a few seconds, goes off then comes back on etc, looping. It is jailbroken on 5.1.1.
So, tried updating firmware to 6.01 on itunes, it always fails on verifying with apple server, had numerous error codes because of myself changing hosts file detals.
Can anyone give me their ip address for their server used on their host file for me to try.
    Some of the errors were 21, 1601, 160 & 3194.
I'm not usually one for asking, i will search and research but this really has me stumped, wondering if it is a hardware problem on the device, anyway, thanks for reading and look forward to any help offered

These are the ip address i have in my host file...
    #127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com
    #74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com
    #74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com

If changing ip still gives you problems then re-install itunes that should sort the verifying problem out...

I would not update to 6.0.1. I would first take a dump of shsh on the 5.1.1 then use that to create a signed ipsw and re-restore 5.1.1 to allow for jailbreak. Chances are if it's on a boot loop that it was jailbroken on 5.1.1 and had something wrong installed.

Have a look at this: Download iPhone / iPod IPSW Manually, Restore via iTunes (How-to) - Softpedia

First thing to do is to hold the home and shutdown/sleep button together until Apple logo appears. This is equivalent to rebooting and is better than shutdown. Once the apple logo appears let go off the buttons.
If the problem continues you can do restore in iTunes and then if you wanted to jail break it. Before that save all your documents, just in case.

This looks a pretty old thread but if anyone has a similar problem and is jailbroken...... this is why "mobile substrate " is installed when we first jailbreak....it's a sort of safety net....hold down the power button and home button...until you see the Apple logo then release..... immediately hold the "UP" volume button....keep holding until you get onto the main screen...Welcome to "SafeMode".... insto Cydia and remove any apps/tweaks you think is causing the looping problem..... to exit "SafeMode" just reBoot iPhone....if all works out well you should be back on the Springboard...
