iphone baseband downgrade

hi, my freinds iphone 3gs, is bricked ? he upgraded to ios 6.1 using itunes, the phone starts up choose language wifi ect but then says something like connect to itunes it wont do anything else we are new at this so a step by step tutorial would be good thank you

some 3gs could be upgraded with iPad baseband and then downgraded from that to last one that could be unlocked with ultrasn0w
