help need with iphone 3gs with no service

hello all i am in desperate need of help my friend gave me his iphone 3gs last year where it had countdown timer on it saying it 999,999,999,999 seconds before he could use it i removed this jailbroke it using redsnow then unlocked to all networks. i gave back to him and he was happy gav e phone to younger brother which i think tried updating to ios 6.1. my friend came back to me saying that 3gs no longer works to which i took a look at and it would get past the activation stage of setting up the 3gs. i have resolved this issue the problem i have is that the iphone says no sim installed even when there is or it say no service. i need help to correct this matter please i tried installing ipad baseband and downgrading baseband however the process goes so long then redsnow crashes i am using xp sp3 ideally would like to go back to ios 5.1.1 just would like some major help if anyone can help me. i tried using tiny umberella however when the program window opens it does not show everything texts and some buttons are not visible

forgot to say that the ipone is activated now but the phone side of things dont work but apps do and cydia is no longer present

My best advice to you is to restore the phone to the latest settings and iOS then try and establish which service provider it is locked to. Try purchasing some cheap payg SIM cards to see which one will activate the service. Contact the working provider for a factory unlock via iTunes. Cost about 20 quid.

ok so i got my self out of it by downgrading to 4.1 and installing i pad baseband then deactivating baseband with red snow but using ultrasn0w i was then facing the problem that the iPhone kept losing the sim card meaning it would find the the sim card give me signal on o2 uk but after 5-10mins then would show up saying no sim. and then following advice following link to use evasion to jailbreak and update to 6.1 was told to update using itunes which i did but now have issue with activating, i get this message . atm im on 6.1.3 baseband 6.15.00 i tried following vids on youtube on how to bypass activate screen without sim however each time i try this redsn0w crashes completely or gets stuck on waiting for reboot. ideally what i am trying to get to is the latest ios and it to be jailbroken please help

You should not have updated using itunes directly.
now you are on 6.1.3 and baseband 6.15.00 of ipad . With this baseband te iphone will never activate and will never detect sim card.


Use redsnow version 15b or 14 and download original ios 6.0.


use redsnow. Select current ispw from advanced menu to 6.0, go back choose jailbreak and select only baseband downgrade.


all you can do is downgrade basband to b able to activate and use the phone. There is no jailbreak for you and no downgrading from 6.1.3 to lower. Impossible for the moment. So downgrade baseband and use the normally until new jailbreak is avaulable for 6.1.3

ok so tried to do what you said but redsnow kept crashing i have managed (i dont know)to downgrade to 4.1 baseband still 6.15.00 how ever when phone is on it has recovery mode logo showing and when i slide to unlock i get emergency calls only and finding it hard to put into dfu mode any ideas would be appreciated.

OK.4.1 is ok for now Now all you have to do for now is get rid of that baseband and downgrade it. use another computer with redsnow. If you run win7 , run redsnow as administrator and compatibility mode xp service pack 3

ok i downgraded baseband to 05.13.04 but now i get no sim even though i have one in i have installed ultrasnow when i installed ultrasn0w it was searching found o2 then saaid no sim card installed.

also when install cydia sources i keep getting gpg error. see image below for example so obviously when come to open source there are nothing in there to install ie installous

ok so 3gs has kept o2 on all night so i guess hat issue is resolved now. but still would like to know how to fix the gpg error as well as update firmware to higher one please

You get that error because you are trying tobinstall haculo.us which is dead. Forget about that repo.
you can updae to 6.1.2 or anyblower if you have saved shsh blobs with cydia or redanow, by creating a custom ispw using snowbrezze . Join shsh blobs and ios 6.x.x and do a custom restore

ok so now i created custom firmware 6.0 using snowbreeze however when hold shift and restore in itunes i get error message unknown error occurred error 3194 i tried changing the host file but still no joy any advice please
is there a way to install it with out using itunes

Exit iTunes and locate your host file; edit the host file at the bottom by typing #74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com.

but it will work only if your iphone has saved shsh blobs (autentification ceritificates)

if still it doesnt work...use tiny umbrella software and set shsh blobs to cydia not apple
