Guys I was having a nightmare with my home button on my iPhone 4. I was on the verge of putting it in to the shop until I read this. It has completely fixed my home button and I'm recommending it.
The home button is the main button on the iPhone. Sometimes it can become unresponsive and even fail to work at all. Mostly this is caused by the ingress of dust and dirt getting inside the internal workings of the button itself. If this happens to your iPhone here's a fix that works really well. Do it at your own risk- dont blame me if it breaks your phone.
Switch off your iPhone and get some whiskey. Carefully pour a few drops over the home button until it forms a small puddle around and over the home button.
Press the home button repeatedly for about 2 minutes. This lets the alcohol run under the button and clean out the internals of the buttons circuit. Leave for 20 minutes on top of a hot radiator.
Switch on the iPhone and the button should be much more responsive.
To calibrate the home button, open up the clock application from your main home screen then press the standby button on the top right hand corner until the message"slide to power off" appears on your screen. When you see this message press down your home button firmly and hold it down until the screen returns to the main home screen again. That's the button calibrated.
