If your mum had a contract with O2 before she gave the phone to you then ask your Mum to call O2 and ask them to unlock it. My daughter gave me her Iphone 3GS and when she rang them up they couldn't be more helpful and unlocked it for free.

Andy there is no software unlock for this phone. As someone has suggested you should contact your service provider. If they can't help you then try standalone unlock companies like officialiphoneunlock.co.uk look to pay about ?60 this way.

You need to check whether the phone is new or old bootrom. If it is old bootrom the phone is completely unlockable to any network by downgrading to ios 4.1 and installing ipad baseband, downgrading baseband to 05.13.04 which is unlockable with ultrasn0w. You can then if you wish upgrade the firmware to 6.1.3 whilst preserving the baseband and hence the unlock. The other option would be to jailbreak the phone on ios 4 until a jailbreak for ios 6.1.3 becomes available.
